Lectures and Workshops
Choose one of the lectures and one of the two hands-on workshops, add a tour of the interactive exhibition, and spend an activity day with us — free of charge!
Lectures
The lectures are primarily intended for school groups from the 7th grade of primary school onwards, but all other visitors are of course welcome as well. All lectures are presented at a popular-science level and do not require any prior knowledge. Our lecturers adjust the level of difficulty according to the visitors’ background. Each lecture lasts one school period.
Electricity from Nuclear Energy – for Primary Schools
Using the Krško Nuclear Power Plant as an example, we explain how electricity is generated in nuclear power plants, which are one of the sources of electricity without greenhouse gas emissions. We also discuss methods of storing radioactive waste and the principles of nuclear safety.
Electricity from Nuclear Energy – for Secondary Schools
Using the Krško Nuclear Power Plant as an example, we explain how electricity is generated in nuclear power plants, which are one of the sources of electricity without greenhouse gas emissions. We also discuss methods of storing radioactive waste and the principles of nuclear safety.
Isotopes for Everyday Use
Isotopes are everywhere — from the farthest corners of the universe to your own backyard, from a supernova to an apple. They’re even inside our bodies, in every single cell. Instead of worrying about them, let’s explore the fun side — how we can use them to our advantage!
Fusion
Fusion is a clean and virtually limitless source of energy. During the lecture, we explore how future fusion power plants will work and the challenges that must still be overcome before fusion becomes part of everyday energy production.
Energy
Life cannot exist without energy.
Every change in nature — and every biological, technological, or social process — depends on energy.
Nearly all the energy our civilization uses comes from nuclear fusion in the Sun.
New lecture! Low-carbon energy sources and climate change.
New lecture!
Discover how different energy sources influence the greenhouse effect and climate change.
Since our civilization depends on energy, it is crucial that we choose energy sources that release as little greenhouse gases as possible — both globally and in Slovenia.
Radiation in medicine, industry, and science.
Learn how ionizing radiation is used in diagnostic techniques such as X-rays, CT scans, gamma cameras, ultrasound, and MRI.
We also explore how radionuclides are used in the treatment of cancer.
Sources of Electricity in Slovenia
Explore the various sources of electricity in Slovenia and learn about their pros and cons. The lecture covers the operation of hydroelectric and thermal power plants, as well as the Krško Nuclear Power Plant. We also explain how solar photovoltaic and wind power plants work.
Workshops
The lecture is usually followed by a short workshop, which highlights the origin and significance of natural radioactivity and provides basic information on electromagnetic radiation, or demonstrates different types of energy (kinetic, potential, elastic, etc.) and the conversions between them. The energy workshop can also be adapted for the youngest visitors if needed.
Radioactivity Workshop
This workshop highlights the origin and importance of natural radioactivity and introduces basic concepts of electromagnetic radiation. While the standard duration is 15 minutes, it can be extended with additional hands-on experiments showing how radiation intensity varies with distance, its penetrating ability, and other phenomena.
Energy Workshop
This workshop uses experiments to illustrate different forms of energy — kinetic, potential, elastic, and more — and how energy can be converted from one form to another. It concludes with a demonstration of electricity generation using models of different power plants, including thermal, solar, and wind.
Come and join us!
The ICJT Info Centre is primarily visited by groups from primary and secondary schools throughout Slovenia. Visitors can enjoy a variety of lectures, explore the nuclear technology exhibition, and take part in a workshop on radioactivity…
Video Lectures and Workshops
Selected lectures and workshops can also be viewed online. (Available only in Slovenian.)
